I received my copy of *The Hardy Society Journal* yesterday, and

congratulate its new editor Claire Seymour. But can anyone tell me the

identity of the man gracing the cover? I don't recognise him, and don't

see him named anywhere in the Journal.

Many Thanks,

Betty

I just received mine as well, Betty. I believe that's Seamus Heaney on

the cover. He gave a wonderful reading of his own and Hardy's poetry

last summer at the International Hardy Conference in Dorchester. It's

odd that there's no attribution for the artwork.

I also queried this. I wondered if it was Seamus Heaney (not unlike) but when I scoured the *Journal* for mention of his becoming a member of the Council (as I had thought it was agreed last summer) I found nothing.

Puzzled,

Rosemarie

Interesting Suzanne. I've been looking at the photos of Heaney I can find

in the house, and John just pulled another off the internet. He is

convinced that Heaney it is. I do see a resemblance, but still have a

lingering doubt. I'll write to Claire Seymour and clear this up for good.

All the Best,

Betty

Yes, it is Seamus Heaney - a photograph taken by Angela Bell at the

wonderful poetry reading he gave on the opening evening of the Hardy

conference in Dorchester last Summer. He is, in fact, now a Vice President

of the Hardy Society.

Good wishes to all,

Helen
