Subject: TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion for March--Student Winner for February

Date: March 1, 2005 9:16:13 AM PST

Dear listmembers,

This is just a reminder that the TTHA Poem of the Month for March is "He Never

Expected Much." I posted the poem and introduced it in February since I knew

I would be on vacation and away from my books when March 1 arrived. Please

visit the site at

http://webboard.ilstu.edu/~TTHA_POTM_DISCUSSIONS/

and participate in this month's discussion.

On a related note, I am pleased to announce that Michalina Pawlikowska has

been chosen as the winner of the February student competition at the site. My

co-judge Carolyn McGrath and I were both very pleased with her insightful and

graceful posting on the imagery and philosophic resonance in the February

poem, "Channel Firing." Ms Pawlikowska, a graduate student in English and in

art history at Wroclaw University in Poland, will receive her choice of a VHS

videotape entitled *Hardy's Wessex* or one of TTHA's publications.

Congratulations and thanks to her.

The student competition will continue for at least the month of March. If you

are a student and a member of this listserv, I hope you will go to the site

and participate in the discussions there. If you are a profess or teacher, I

hope you will encourage your students to participate.

best,

Bill Morgan

Subject: THOMAS HARDY LIMITED EDITION BOOK

Date: March 6, 2005 1:02:22 AM PST

Dear members

I am sending this message with permission from the Forum director as it may be of special interest to Forum members.

I have a limited edition book I purchased from Dorset County Museum which I would like to sell and was wondering if any Forum members might be interested.

The book is called 'Moments of Love' and is a Limited facimile edition (published in 1997) of Thomas Hardy's love poems to his wife Emma, containing an original autograph by the author (the autograph being an insertion by the museum) . The facimile edition is taken from manuscripts in the Dorset County Museum, Dorchester, UK. Each poem is accompanied by a copy of the original in Thomas Hardy's writing.

These editions were put on the market in 1997 when the Dorset County Museum were trying to raise funds for their new Writers' gallery. As a Thomas Hardy fan I decided to buy one but unfortunately now need to sell due to financial circumstances. The book is hardbound (with a leather spine) and comes with a cover. I have kept it in excellent condition and have also kept the correspondence and receipt from Dorset Museum, in its original envelope with date on.

I have some electronic pictures of the book which I can send to any Forum members who might be interested.

I am selling the book for £350 or $673 dollars (to cover the amount I originally paid for it).

If any members are interested please e-mail me and I can give you any further information or send you some photos.

Kind regards

Tara Barker (Based in the UK)

Subject: Thomas Hardy Postgraduate Symposium (Dorchester, 7/22/06- 7/29/06)

Date: March 15, 2005 7:40:05 AM PST

Phillip Mallett, University of St Andrews, Jane Thomas, University of Hull,

and I are co-organizing a

postgraduate symposium which will form part of the international Thomas Hardy

Conference, 22-29

July 2006, Dorchester. We are keen to involve young and new scholars in the

Conference, which is the

17th biennial Hardy conference, and it would be immensely useful to the Thomas

Hardy Society to have

a general idea as to the number of postgraduates in the UK and US currently

working on Hardy (or

whose research includes Hardy), and whether they would be likely to come to

the conference (would

there, for example, be any financial support from your institution). So, if

you are a pursuing

postgraduate work, or supervising research students, in this area, we'd be

very grateful if you could let

us know, giving brief details of the area of research.

We'd also very much like to hear from postgraduates who would be interested in

giving a 20 minute

paper at the conference. Please email me at A.Richardson@exeter.ac.uk with a

brief outline of your

thesis topic, at this stage just to signal interest.

With all best wishes
