I'm researching musical settings of the poetry of A. E. Housman. In the last couple of decades there seems to have been a resurgence of interest among composers in setting Housman. Has there also been a resurgence of interest in setting Hardy?

According to Gooch and Thatcher's 1976 catalogue, Housman and Hardy, together with de la Mare and Yeats, were the most-set British poets in the 1920s. I'm hoping to develop a context for the Housman revival.

Anne sings most beautifully the baroque aria

to the words of Handel's librettist; Charles Jennens.

One cannot help but imagine the sounds

of Sir Henry Bishop's song trilling

from that stage in Sturminster Newton.

Come on now ladies (Gene's choristers

especially) and shine with your 'native lustre'

as you sing along with your

'dexterous voice(s)'.

Make sure to keep up with Anne in

your renderings of the last vocal phrases!
