Hello all,

I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm writing a piece which requires me to know the layout of Max Gate. Nothing detailed, just a basic plan; where rooms are in relation to each other, about what size the rooms are. I can't get to the house myself, unfortunately. Any format containing the information would be useful; web-sites, books, etc. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thomas, I don't have the current e-address of Andrew Leah, the current

occupant of Max Gate at hand, but if you send your query to the Hardy

Society UK at:

info@hardysociety.org

I am sure you will be able to contact him, or someone else who can help you

with that information.

Best Wishes,

Betty Cortus

Dear Thomas

Floorplans mapping the changes Hardy made to Max Gate are included in

Chalfont, Fran."Hardy's Residences and Lodgings : Part Two" The Thomas Hardy Journal 9.1 (Feb 1993):41-61.

This article can also be found in

Page, Norman (ed) Thomas Hardy : Family History

Volume One p.41-61

No room sizes but it will probably be helpful,
