Does anyone know if TH was referring to a specific person in his poem 'Her

Immortality' and, if so, who it was?

Many thanks,

Patrick Roper

The poem appeared in Wessex Poems, published in 1898. Since Tryphena Sparks

died in 1890, and given the reference to "Seven Years", she could be the

person, assuming the poem was written soon before the book was published.

All the other women that he could probably be referring to were still alive

in 1898. Just a thought, because I don't know when "Her Immortality" was

published (or whether Charles Gale re-married).
