?Subject: ?Blackmore Vale Wind Turbines Planning Application
From: helen.gibson@ukgateway.netDear Forum readers,
You may wish to know about the following:
Planning Application: 03/03480/FUL South Somerset District Council.
The Hardy Society has just received a message that a formal planning application has now been submitted to South Somerset District Council for the erection of two 100 metre wind turbines at the village of Cucklington in the Blackmore Vale.
These turbines are twice the height of Alfreds Tower (Stourton Tower), considerably higher than most existing turbines only about 10 of this size have so far been put up.
The concern is that there will be more of these industrial structures across the landscape which is so much associated with Hardys writing, and which is valued by people throughout the world as part of his *Wessex* heritage. Hardy said that one of his favourite views was from High Stoy Hill looking across the Blackmore Vale, and that on a clear day he could see the Bristol Channel.
If you would like to find out more about this project, there is a website at www.savethevale.org.uk
If you wish to express a view, letters should be written by 31 January 2004 to:
Miss Pauline Tillett
Chief Planning Officer Area East
South Somerset District Council
Churchfield, Wincanton, BA9 9AG
e-mail: pauline.tillett@southsomerset.gov.uk
best wishes,
Helen Gibson

Dear Helen,
Thanks so much for your vigilance and news on this serious issue. I shall be contacting those responsible, though I doubt to much effect.

Folks-- a bunch of official names and numbers were supplied some weeks back on
the Forum. I wrote (as did others) and have had some very positive responses
from the Member of Parliament (Heath) and the local paper, the Western
Gazette.
Can I suggest you search back on the Forum and get these details if you
wish to
support the cause.
Cheers
Rosemarie
