I am currently researching Thomas Hardy's literature for children, including 'Our Exploits at West Poley', 'The Thieves Who Couldn't Help Sneezing' and also the 'Baby Poems' as part of my degree at Cambridge University, England. Can anyone suggest any books/ authors discussing this area of Hardy's work to assist my analysis and understanding. I have so far been unable to find very much about the above mentioned stories. Thank you Beverley Lawrence bjl32@cam.ac.uk

It completely slipped my mind, Beverley, in our initial correspondence, to
mention that the next edition of *The Hardy Review,* Volume V, now on its way
to the printers, features a fairly lengthy Forum discussion on the "Baby
Poems". Also, that vague recollection I had of something I'd seen on Hardy and
children is now clearer in my mind-- it is a PhD by Ruth Essex which I believe
includes something on children. Essex published a pamphlet, privately, it
appears, which I've found among my papers. If you can't trace this publication
I'd be glad to send it to you although I have to say it is very slight.

With every good wish,
Rosemarie

I have done quite a bit of searching but have been unable to find anything
under by Ruth Essex in reference to Hardy. Do you have a title of the
pamphlet. If so I will continue searching, but if I am unable to find this
piece, which is looking likely, then I would very much appreciate you
sending it to me as it does sound very interesting and useful.

I look forward to being able to order the next edition of the Hardy review
and read more about the 'Baby Poems'. From what I have already read on the
Association website the poems sound fascinating.

Thank you for your help and advice.

Bev Lawrence
