Dear Hardy List-Serve Members:

Rosemarie has asked that I periodically draw your attention to new listings
on the "Links" site, which I intend to revise in augment in the weeks ahead.
Should any of you find anything that you consider worthy of inclusion,
please e-mail me the details.

Here is the latest posting, a site definitely for the more affluent Hardy
buff:

http://flash.lakeheadu.ca/~pvalling/linksone/thomashardytours.htm

Commercial website devoted to tours of the Hardy Country via Mercedes
limousine, with either 9-day or 16-day itinerary available. First-class
hotels and restaurants are featured. Tours can be
custom-designed.Miscellany.

COMMENT: For the extremely well-off American Hardy enthusiast.
The standard itinerary includes stops at Max Gate, Shaftesbury, Dorchester,
Salisbury, Cerne Abbas, Stinsford, and Marnhull, as well as principal London
tourist sites such as The Tower and Buckingham Palace. Hotels include The
Ritz, The Mandarin Oriental, and The Hempel Anouska (London), Plumber Manor
(Dorset). Most expenses, including flight from the United States, transfers,
and admissions, are included in a price that works out to be about $500 (US)
per day.

Sincerely,
Philip V. Allingham,
V. P. in charge of "Links."

Returning --- to thank Dale Kramer for his splendid (additional)
contribution to The Thomas Hardy Association Collection of Early Hardy
Criticism which, this time around, includes the donation of his own great
work: *Thomas Hardy: The Forms of Tragedy.*

Dale's box of goodies was awaiting my return from Spring Recess, as was
Betty Cortus's packet containing the Vere Collins interviews with Hardy.

Thank you for your generosity, friends!

I've recorded your gifts on:

Cheers,
Rosemarie

Subject: RE: Elina in Latvia

Dear Friends--

just a note to say that Elina in Latvia (the student recipient of TTHA's
Books-to-Latvia project) has sent me a very good epistle outlining Life in
Latvia since partition (secession?) from the Soviet Union. I'm sure many of
you, especially those who sent books, would like to read her letter. If so,
let me know and I'll forward it by e-attachment.

I'm rather hoping that we can gather some funds to get Elina to the next
Hardy Conference in Dorchester. Any ideas?

With every good wish,
Rosemarie

Hello Rosemarie: Yes, I would like to receive a copy of Elina's letter. We
are hosting a medical doctor from Belarus and it would be interesting to see
how the changes in Latvia compare to the changes in Belarus.

Sorry that I'm unable to advance any sure-fire ideas for underwriting
Elina's trip to the next TTHA Conference. My suggestion: A plea for direct
donations from TTHA general membership, anything from $25 to $100+.

Thanks for keeping everyone posted. /s/John R. Bridell, Minneapolis
