HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE HO2069 11/13/02 "BOOKS TO LATVIA" ====================================================== Date: Wed, 13 Nov 2002 12:31:25 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: BOOKS TO LATVIA Greetings All: Just to remind you that TTHA is still operating the "Books To Latvia" service, for the undernourished libraries in that country. I shall be sending off my superfluous copies of *The Hardy Journal* this week. If any of you have spare Hardy books (including used) to donate do please write to me by private email (I'm not at liberty to post the Latvian address here). Just so you know, TTHA started this project upon discovering that a Hardy enthusiast in Latvia was trying to write her thesis with only 3 or 4 books available in her college library, on TH. Since that time, two years ago, we have collectively furnished various college libraries (via our young "enthusiast") -- including the National University of Latvia -- with nearly 3 dozen books. TTHA annually supplies copies of *The Hardy Review* and the *Occasional Series* -- but more books are desperately needed. With grateful thanks to all of those who have contributed to this worthy cause. With every good wish, Rosemarie ========== From: "harrybatt" Subject: Re: BOOKS TO LATVIA Date: Wed, 13 Nov 2002 14:20:11 -0600 Rosemarie: Would you be kind enough to furnish me with your private mail address? Just a reminder (if I didn't already mention this in private email) that it is important to put "FROM THE THOMAS HARDY ASSOCIATION" on your envelope/package. This is to help the books through Latvian customs. A while ago I filled in forms sent by the Latvian government to faciliate the sending of books, some of which may otherwise be subject to confiscation. I was given a "Pass" number on these forms but when I asked if I should put this "pass" number on mailed packages I was told not to (rather confusing). I was advised simply to put the name of the sending organisation, eg, TTHA (written in full). Thank you again for your support-- you have no idea what joy these book will bring! With every good wish, Rosemarie ==========
