HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H01081 10/01/01 "AVAILABILITY OF THE COMPLETE POEMS IN PAPERBACK" ===================================================================================== Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2001 19:57:57 +0100 From: Philip Irwin Subject: Poems paperback edition - anytime soon? Has anyone got any information on when Thomas Hardy: the Complete Poems (ed. Gibson) will appear in paperback in the UK? There was a mid-August publication date which has (obviously) been and gone. I see that amazon.co.uk (and likewise my local Waterstone's) still have it on order. Philip ========== From: "rushmere" Subject: Re: Poems paperback edition - anytime soon? Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2001 21:00:11 +0100 philip, i have heard mid november but not off a very reliable informant, i hope that helps jon ========== From: "James Gibson" Subject: Thomas Hardy's COMPLETE POEMS (new paperback edition) Date: Wed, 3 Oct 2001 16:48:49 +0100 I have just telephoned Macmillan who assure me that copies will be available next week - not bad since it was originally to be published last December ! The London Review of Books has a quarter-page colour advertisement implying that it is in the bookshops now! I would like to put it on record that I was not consulted about the new cover - a picture of a church depicted in a romantic green colour. The church is at West Parley, on the borders of Hampshire and Dorset, which had nothing whatsover to do with Hardy. Maybe Macmillan (sorry, palgrave) have never heard of Stinsford Church which would of course have been much more appropriate as a cover illustration. If you have any queries about this new edition, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. Best wishes, James Gibson ==========
