HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H01054 6/14/01 "BOOKS FOR LATVIA APPEAL UPDATE" ===================================================================== Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 09:43:25 -0400 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re:Elina Good News!! I've just received news from Elina Taube (Latvia) to say that she was successful in gaining her B.A and will now be progressing to an M.A. Hearty congratulations to Elina! This is a *very* special occasion. Forum subscribers may recall that some time ago Elina told us of her plight in not being able to get hold of books on or by Hardy. TTHA then organised a "Books-to-Latvia" project and it turns out that the global response to that endeavour made all the difference in the world to Elina. Not only could she now read widely into Hardy studies but she was also in the happy position of being able to offer her academic supervisor books he was not otherwise able to find. At the same time, Elina agreed to pass on some of the books she received to the Latvian National Library. It turns out that Elina graduated with high honours! This means that whereas initially she thought she wouldn't be able to afford to continue on towards an M.A she is now in the well-earned position of being offered free tuition and part-time lecturing at her college. Need I say her work will focus on Hardy? This is all wonderful news! But it doesn't mean we should let-up on the "Books" project. If you have any books which may be superfluous to your needs please contact me. Let's fill the Latvian National Library with Hardy! Elina wishes to offer special thanks to TTHA member and radio host, Lisa Cacicia, for going out of her way to help herself and the needy readers of Latvia. With grateful thanks for your cooperation in this endeavour, and with every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ===========
