Hello-
	I am not sure if I am writing to the correct place/person, but I
hope this goes somewhere!  Currently, I am involved in a research project
about Hardy's treatment of women in the novel The Mayor of Casterbridge.  I
have found some sources, but am looking for any information that you all can
offer me on this topic.

At the moment I don't recall whether it mentions The Mayor of 
Casterbridge, but a book I found very interesting is Samuel Pyeatt 
Menefee, *Wives for Sale: An Ethnographic Study of British Popular 
Opinions* (Blackwell, 1981).
