HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H01003 1/12/01 "JULIA ROBERTS & IMAGINATIVE WOMAN" ============================================================= Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 10:43:58 -0500 (EST) From: Jason Allen Subject: Interesting AP story regarding Julia Roberts and Thomas Hardy.... Stated that one of her favorite novels was Thomas Hardy's "The Imaginative Women," but to my knowledge there is no such book. Imaginative women indeed! http://www.cnn.com/2001/SHOWBIZ/News/01/11/showbuzz/#story1 Jason Allen ========== Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 10:26:16 -0600 From: Bill Morgan Subject: Re: Interesting AP story regarding Julia Roberts and Thomas Hardy.... She's not quite as far off as she sounds on first blush: "An Imaginative Woman" is a short story--one that began life in *Wessex Tales,* I believe, but is now housed in *Life's Little Ironies*. I have long thought Julia Roberts would make THE perfect Bethsheba Everdeen for a great remake of Far From the Madding Crowd. ========== Date: Fri, 12 Jan 2001 12:15:38 -0500 (EST) From: Jason Allen Subject: Re: Interesting AP story regarding Julia Roberts and Thomas Hardy.... Ah, but I've never considered short stories under the banner of "novels I've read." Jason ========== From: "J. Just a sort of dislexic type slip typical of actors, they file away the story itself like a film in their brain, the imaginative essesence, forgeting momentarily it's sorce, and indeed many a short story has been adapted successfully to feature films of "novelic" proportions while actual novels are often better as mini series.I think of Bethsheba as more passionately confused, mecurial and perhaps a tad giddy,it's Gabriel that broods, either way Julia could pull it off . Don't be so hard on th' goil.. ==========
