HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H01001 12/31/00 "JANUARY 01 ANNOUNCEMENTS ======================================================= Date: Sun, 31 Dec 2000 20:38:43 -0600 From: Bill Morgan Earlier this evening I posted Hardy's "She At His Funeral" and "Her Confession" as the TTHA Poem(s) of the Month for January, 2001. This discussion will be the second in a series dedicated to Hardy poems with female narrators. I invite your contributions to the month-long conversation about these two early Hardy lyrics. You can find the TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion by following the links from the main TTHA page at http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Welcome/welcomet.htm or by going directly to http://netforum.ilstu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/ths/a/1/ Whichever route you take, when you arrive at the Poem of the Month site, you will encounter a program called NetForum which will give you the opportunity to read the poems as well as any comments they may have generated, compose a response, preview your response, edit it further if you like, and finally submit your contribution by clicking on the button labeled Post the Message. (*DON'T use the Reset Message button*; you will lose your work.) If you are composing an intricate or long response, you may want to prepare your message in a word processing program, then copy it to your clipboard before pasting it into the message area of NetForum. And if you prefer, feel free to send me your contribution as an e-mail, and I will post it for you: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu. While the discussions for February, 1998 through November 1999 have been "closed" and their contents edited and published in *The Hardy Review* [I:1 (July 1998) and 2:1 (Summer 1999)] and while the conversations from 1999 about the "Emma" poems as well as those concerning "Channel Firing" (January), "Satires of Circumstance in 15 Glimpses" (March), "After the Visit" and "To Meet, or Otherwise" (May), and "A Singer Asleep" (July), are currently being edited for publication, the discussions of "Nature's Questioning" (January), "The Mother Mourns" (February), "The Subalterns" (March), "The Lacking Sense" (April), "In a Wood" (May), and "To Outer Nature" and "June Leaves and Autumn" (June), "Wagtail and Baby" and "On a Midsummer Eve" (July), "Afterwards" (August), "Shut Out That Moon" (September), "The Last Chrysanthemum" and "The Year's Awakening" (October), "The Night of the Dance" (November), and "The Dark-Eyed Gentleman" (December) are still open, and your contributions are invited. Happy New Year, and welcome to the January 2001 TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 00:38:37 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: The Hardy Review, III, 2000 Greetings All: Happy to say that at last TTHA's annual publication, The Hardy Review, is now out -- Volume III, 2000. All TTHA directors and paid-up members will receive their complimentary copy in the next week or so. If for some reason your copy doesn't arrive please contact me (giving membership details) at : rm82@pantheon.yale.edu/hardysoc. Please also note (while I'm here) that TTHA's POTM debates on the "Emma Poems", (debates dating back to 1999), will be brought into publication very shortly and that anyone participating in those debates who might wish to withhold permission to publish should contact me at the same e-mail address (above). Thank you all for your enthusiastic support and encouragement this past year or so. It's all sincerely appreciated & most certainly helps to keep the (metaphysical) wolf from the door! With heartfelt gratitudes-- and every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ========== Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 12:01:19 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: NEWS! GREETINGS ALL! This is to announce the advent of TTHA's latest research resource which will be opening, officially, on January 31, 2001. The new page will be available to TTHA members who can access it very simply by typing in their membership number (if you have forgotten or mislaid your number please feel free to e-mail me at: rm82@pantheon.yale.edu). To kick off with, *Members' Research Resources* will feature an innovative *Checklist* for which Bob Schweik has written a useful blurb, as follows: _________________________________ A CHECKLIST OF RECENT HARDY PUBLICATIONS A CHECKLIST OF RECENT HARDY PUBLICATIONS and its archives is a special service the TTHA provides its members. It is currently produced by a team of seventeen scholars around the world, aided by other special correspondents. They review, at least every other month, nearly one hundred sources, including more than 25 bibliographies, trade lists, catalogues, and electronic databases, as well as the current contents of over 70 scholarly journals, and the archives of major Internet discussion lists. The resulting Checklist cites the most recent Hardy scholarship published in English, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, and Arabic. It provides a list of writings by and about Hardy published in the immediately preceding year and in the current year, with, in addition, listings of prepublications and announced publications for the following year. Checklists for earlier years will be archived, beginning with the Checklist for the year 2000, which will be archived in the year 2002. The current Checklist covers the years 2000, 2001, and 2002. It is arranged in the following classes: I. PRIMARY: WRITINGS BY HARDY A. Editions and Reprints B. Readings, Dramatizations, and Musical Settings II. SECONDARY: WRITINGS ABOUT HARDY A. Books and Annuals on Hardy B. Books with Significant Hardy Content C. Articles and Review Articles D. Audio Cassettes and CD's E. Reviews of Works Published Earlier F. Announcements, Notes, Letters, and Reports G. Dissertations and Theses H. Miscellaneous Earlier Publications I. Archives of Internet Publications Many Checklist citations are annotated. The contents of book-length publications are often analyzed. Related entries are hyperlinked to make finding connections between them easier. The relevant contents of Internet archives are provided in detail. And the entire Checklist may be searched for keywords, and its table of contents is hyperlinked to allow for easy access to its various divisions. ========== But the primary advantage of the Checklist is its currency. Listings are usually a year--often two years or more--in advance of standard bibliographies. As of January 31, 2001, the Checklist will provide information on more than 170 works published in 2000 and 2001, and new entries are regularly being added. In short, for anyone who wishes to keep up with the latest research on Hardy, the TTHA CHECKLIST OF RECENT HARDY PUBLICATIONS is the one indispensable resource to consult. __________________________ /End of Blurb _________________________ WITHIN the next few months further items will be added to *Members' Research Resources*: amongst these will be Hardy's *Collected Poems,* currently being collated and checked for accuracy by members of TTHA team. Then, also, Martin Ray's Poetry Concordance (which will save him the toil of mailing this out to members on CD ROM-- although the CD will, of course, still be available for purchase from Martin himself --[order form online at www.yale.edu/hardysoc]). To these gems will be added the POTM (Poem of the Month) archives; these will be transferred to *Members' Research Resources* where they will benefit from the aid and assistance of M.R.R's "closed shop" search engine. Several other ideas are being explored at this point and we would be delighted if TTHA members and Forum subscribers could offer further suggestions -- each and every one will be most warmly welcomed. Last but by no means least I would like to express the deepest gratitude to those TTHA directors and scholars worldwide who have, in a most wonderful spirit of collaboration & cooperation, innovated, researched and designed the M.R.R page -- together! To these generous souls and for their labour of love we offer our heartfelt thanks. With every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan PRESIDENT ========== Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 10:03:12 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: NEWS! GREETINGS ALL! TODAY: This is to announce THE GRAND OPENING of the MEMBERS' RESEARCH RESOURCE on The Thomas Hardy Association's website at: www.yale.edu/hardysoc. The new page is available to all TTHA members who can access it very simply by typing in their membership number -- a one-time procedure. If you have forgotten or mislaid your number please feel free to e-mail me at: rm82@pantheon.yale.edu). Please also note that you may need to update your browser (which you can download from the internet) in order to maximise the efficiency of Members' Research Resources. I should also mention (with regrets) that Microsoft Explorer works better (than Netscape) with the software which supports this page. On behalf of TTHA I'd like to thank, most warmly, our global network of scholars who have helped to make this wonderful resource possible. With every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan P.S And to those who have enquired, The Hardy Review, III (2000) is still in process of being mailed out to TTHAthe ==========
