HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H0089 11/1/00 "NOVEMBER 2000 ANNOUNCEMENTS" ========================================================= Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2000 21:58:25 -0600 From: Bill Morgan Subject: TTHA Poem(s) of the Month for November Earlier this evening I posted Hardy's "The Night of the Dance" as the TTHA Poem of the Month for November, 2000. This discussion will be the twelfth and last in a series dedicated to Hardy pieces about the meaning and poetic uses of the natural world. You can find the TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion by following the links from the main TTHA page at http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Welcome/welcomet.htm or by going directly to http://netforum.ilstu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/ths/a/1/ Whichever route you take, when you arrive at the Poem of the Month site, you will encounter a program called NetForum which will give you the opportunity to read the poems as well as any comments they may have generated, compose a response, preview your response, edit it further if you like, and finally submit your contribution by clicking on the button labeled Post the Message. (*DON'T use the Reset Message button*; you will lose your work.) If you are composing an intricate or long response, you may want to prepare your message in a word processing program, then copy it to your clipboard before pasting it into the message area of NetForum. And if you prefer, feel free to send me your contribution as an e-mail, and I will post it for you: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu. While the discussions for February, 1998 through November 1999 have been "closed" and their contents edited and published in *The Hardy Review* [I:1 (July 1998) and 2:1 (Summer 1999)] and while the conversations from 1999 about the "Emma" poems as well as those concerning "Channel Firing" (January), "Satires of Circumstance in 15 Glimpses" (March), "After the Visit" and "To Meet, or Otherwise" (May), and "A Singer Asleep" (July), are currently being edited for publication, the discussions of "Nature's Questioning" (January), "The Mother Mourns" (February), "The Subalterns" (March), "The Lacking Sense" (April), "In a Wood" (May), and "To Outer Nature" and "June Leaves and Autumn" (June), "Wagtail and Baby" and "On a Midsummer Eve" (July), "Afterwards" (August), "Shut Out That Moon" (September), and "The Last Chrysanthemum" and "The Year's Awakening" (October) are still open, and your contributions are invited. Welcome to the November 2000 TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== Date: Tue, 07 Nov 2000 17:30:36 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: Call for Books Call for books: Many of you will recall Elina Taube from the town of Riga (until recently, of the Soviet Union) who earlier braved the Forum and called for helpful ideas on Hardy and Symbolism. Elina is now completing her B.A on Hardy but still desperately lacks books for her thesis -- her college library being sadly meagre. I have sent her the two or three books on TH that I can spare. Is there anyone else out there who could also contribute? Secondhand books, paperbacks, essays, articles -- you name it! Elina would be deeply grateful for any and all copies you might have to spare. Given that her B.A thesis is on TH and Symbolism this could, I suppose, encompass quite a variety of literary figurations -- but I would imagine any sound, solid textual criticism would be a great boon to her, topical or not. Please contact me personally, if you have any texts to spare. Thanking you in anticipation and with every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ========== Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 20:10:03 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: Call for Books To Those of You who have responded to the message aboce, many grateful thanks. PLease don't hesitate to contact me if you missed this message the first time around. The Searle family have now made this unique dwelling place available for Bed and Breakfast. For further details please go to: http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Promotions/promotio.htm SECOND: The Thomas Hardy Essay Competition has been extended this year to all pre-college students, worldwide. For further details please go to: http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Promotions/promotio.htm THIRD: I have received this week, courtesy of Gerry Kennedy at Mixen Productions, an audio tape entitled, "Thomas Hardy's Heart of Wessex." This 90-minute tape features a selection of Hardy's poetry and novels together with song-settings and music not to mention the ticking of Hardy's grandfather clock and the sounding of the quarter-hours by the jack-o-clock on the tower of Wimborne Minster. For further details please e-mail Gerry at: gerry@kennedyg.freeserve.co.uk With every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ==========
