HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H0071 9/1/00 "SEPTEMBER 2000 ANNOUNCEMENTS" ======================================================== Date: Fri, 01 Sep 2000 09:34:31 -0500 From: Bill Morgan Subject: TTHA Poem of the Month for September Earlier this morning, I posted Hardy's "Shut Out That Moon" as the TTHA Poem of the Month for September, 2000. This discussion will be the ninth in a series dedicated to Hardy pieces about the meaning and poetic uses of the natural world. You can find the TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion by following the links from the main TTHA page at http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Welcome/welcomet.htm or by going directly to http://netforum.ilstu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/ths/a/1/ Whichever route you take, when you arrive at the Poem of the Month discussion, you will encounter a program called NetForum which will give you the opportunity to read the poems as well as any comments they may have generated, compose a response, preview your response, edit it further if you like, and finally submit your contribution by clicking on the button labeled Post the Message. (*DON'T use the Reset Message button*; you will lose your work.) If you are composing an intricate or long response, you may want to prepare your message in a word processing program, then copy it to your clipboard before pasting it into the message area of NetForum. And if you prefer, feel free to send me your contribution as an e-mail, and I will post it for you: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu. While the discussions for February, 1998 through November 1999 have been "closed" and their contents edited and published in *The Hardy Review* [I:1 (July 1998) and 2:1 (Summer 1999)] and while the conversations from 1999 about the "Emma" poems are currently being edited for publication, the discussions of "Channel Firing" (January), "Satires of Circumstance in 15 Glimpses" (March), "After the Visit" and "To Meet, or Otherwise" (May), "A Singer Asleep" (July), "Nature's Questioning" (January), "The Mother Mourns" (February), "The Subalterns" (March), "The Lacking Sense" (April), "In a Wood" (May), and "To Outer Nature" and "June Leaves and Autumn" (June), "Wagtail and Baby" and "On a Midsummer Eve" (July), and "Afterwards" (August) are still open, and your contributions are invited. Welcome to the July and August 2000 TTHA Poem of the Month Discussions. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== Date: Wed, 06 Sep 2000 22:09:28 -0400 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: The Hardy Review, Vol 3 Second Posting With Two Amendments: __________ __________ >Greetings all! > Just to say that The Hardy Review, Vol 3, 2000, is now being >prepared for publication. Would the following (remaining) members please let me know >(rm82@pantheon.yale.edu) whether they have any objection to being put >into print re.the FORUM thread that kicked off in January >concerning textual-sexual interpretation: "Howlers," "Soft >Deconstructionists" et al? : > David Harris, J. Wheeler, W.W Kerrigan, Charles >Davies, John Pacer Nelson and Bill Morgan. > Please note that all contributions are subject to editorial cuts but >there will be no other textual changes aside from punctuation, >hyphenation, italicisation of titles and general formatting. AMENDMENT ONE: Last week I suggested to some of you that a "Letters to the Editor" segment could be attached to this Forum section of the published Review to take care of any afterthoughts or updates you might like to make to your January observations on this topic. But I think a better idea-- suggested by Marcus-- might be to use (concise) footnotes for this purpose. I like this idea! Do let me know what you think ? (rm82@pantheon.yale.edu) AMENDMENT TWO: We have decided to include the "Rain on a Grave" 'offshoot' to the "Howlers" dialogue so there are now three additional contributors for whom this message is relevant. : Dennis Taylor, Mark Brown and John Gould. > > This notice will be posted ONCE more in the hope of reaching all concerned. If you wish to >view your own contribution (which you have probably completely forgotten >about by now), please make this request by private e-mail to myself (via >the address given above in parenthesis). Should you choose this option >please don't contemplate major alterations aside from rectifying typos (which >the editor would do anyway). Please feel free to withhold permission to >publish; in this event the editor will paraphrase your FORUM comments (in >the interests of the continuity of the debate.) > > And please don't forget that you will receive a free copy of The >Hardy Review, volume 3, upon publication in the fall, if you are a >member of The Thomas Hardy Association. > > With every good wish, > Rosemarie Morgan PS The Poem of the Month dialogues are currently under selection for publication in the Hardy Review, Vol 3, so you'll see this notice again, I'm afraid. Apologies to those List members for whom this is an unwanted intrusion! > ========== Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 09:05:37 -0700 From: Betty and/or John Cortus Subject: SPAM Unfortunately we have no way of avoiding the kind of spam that came to the list earlier today. However, although these unwelcome events are annoying they are relatively rare on this list. List members are aware that advertising is not permitted on HARDY-L. I encourage you to delete such messages promptly, and by no means respond to them. Thank You For Your Patience, Betty Cortus hardycor@mailhost2.csusm.edu ========== Date: Fri, 22 Sep 2000 11:45:19 -0700 From: HARDY-L-request@csusm.edu To: hardycor@owl.csusm.edu Subject: Re: UNSUBSCRIBE >Dear Sherry and others who wish to unsubscribe, > To unsubscribe from HARDY-L simply e-mail to: > HARDY-L-request@mailhost1.csusm.edu >Then write the word unsubscribe in the subject or re line, NOT in the body >of the message. It's as simple as that. Make sure you have spelled the >word unsubscribe correctly. It is so easy to misspell that rather tricky >word I'm afraid.
