In a conversation with Garrett Collins, our liaison at that university today he remarked: "I am pleased that the list is still so well received; your efforts define one of our best (most used and appreciated ) listservs. I hope, with your co-operation, we can continue to be the CSUSM poster child for list serves! If you sent a message to the List, or to me personally, which did not receive an expected reply would you please contact me again. Thank You, Betty Cortus hardycor@mailhost2.csusm.edu ========== Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 09:21:02 -0700 From: Betty Cortus Subject: New Item on TTHA "RESOURCES" Rosemarie Morgan has recently added her edition of two surviving draft fragments of _Far From the Madding Crowd_ to the RESOURCES section of the TTHA web-site. Rosemarie suggests that these draft fragments "probably formed one of the occasional set pieces Hardy submitted to his editor, Leslie Stephen, for appraisal before settling upon the text proper." It is interesting to observe how widely they differ, in content if not in tone, from the manuscript itself. Betty Cortus ========== Date: Mon, 21 Aug 2000 10:04:52 -0700 From: Betty Cortus Subject: Unsubscribing etc. Dear All, Once again it is time for a few reminders. If you wish to unsubscribe from the HARDY-L list please do not write to the address used for sending messages to the list, or use the reply function to do so. Doing this will send your message to every member of the list and simply clog up their mail boxes with unwanted material. To unsubscribe successfully e-mail to: HARDY-L-request@mailhost 1.csusm.edu then simply write the word unsubscribe in the subject line, NOT in the body of the message. If you change your Internet Service Provider, or your e-mail address, first unsubscribe, as outlined above, then subscribe again after the change has been made. On the subject of unwanted e-mail, I apologize for the spamming the list has undergone over the last couple of days. These spammers are almost impossible to track down and eliminate, but we are doing our best to do so. Simply delete messages like this, and by no means respond to them. And please do not send any e-mails to the List using HTML format if you can possibly avoid it. HTML messages make it very difficult to do the Archiving. Thanking you all for your cooperation, Betty Cortus hardycor@mailhost2.csusm.edu ========== Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2000 19:47:51 -0400 Subject: Re: The Hardy Review, Vol 3 From: Rosemarie A Morgan Greetings all! Just to say that The Hardy Review, Vol 3, 2000, is now being prepared for publication. Would the following members please let me know (rm82@pantheon.yale.edu) whether they have any objection to being put into print vis a vis the FORUM thread that kicked off in January concerning textual-sexual interpretation: "Howlers," "Soft Deconstructionists" et al? The following are currently under selection: David Harris, J. Wheeler, Richard Nemesvari, W.W Kerrigan, Charles Davies, Marcus Barrett, Keith Wilson, James Whitehead, Joan Sheski, Alan Shelston, John Pacer Nelson and Bill Morgan. Please note that all contributions are subject to editorial cuts but there will be no other textual changes aside from punctuation, hyphenation, italicisation of titles and general formatting. This notice will be posted (in the true Anglican tradition of posting nuptial banns!), in three separate postings over the next three weeks in the FORUM "pulpit" in the hope of reaching all concerned. If you wish to view your own contribution (which you have probably completely forgotten about by now), please make this request by private e-mail to myself (via the address given above in parenthesis). Should you choose this option please don't contemplate alterations aside from rectifying typos (which the editor would do anyway). Please feel free to withhold permission to publish; in this event the editor will paraphrase your FORUM comments (in the interests of the continuity of the debate.) And please don't forget that you will receive a free copy of The Hardy Review, volume 3, upon publication in the early fall, if you are a member of The Thomas Hardy Association. With every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ==========
