Bill Morgan tells me that as of yesterday afternoon, the *Moments of Vision* Appeal has raised $2837.50. This is wonderful! So far, there have been 41 contributions from around the world--a truly heartwarming response in so short a time. However, time is growing shorter still. We must to raise those numbers if the Appeal is to be successful. Even though the deadline is July 1, for practical purposes, Bill will need to notify the owners of the book within the next 3 weeks or so. According to my math, we need 187 people each donating $25 to meet the goal. How about it? -- doesn't sound impossible to me. Surely this special book belongs in the Hardy Memorial Collection and not in the sale catalogue at Christie's to end up at some remote part of the world-- *Far From the ...* (oops! can't think of an apt substitute). There will be one more after this one, and then I'll leave you in peace. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please go to http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/urgent.htm and read the notice posted there--or e-mail me for more details. As of today, the Appeal has raised $5400 of the $7500 we need by the July 1 deadline. If you have sent a donation and suspect I may not yet have received it, or if you intend to contribute but haven't yet done so, would you please contact me privately to let me know the amount of your contribution: I need to do a final reckoning by this time next week. There are some hopeful signs that a few donors able to give larger sums may be willing to help out at the last minute. Their assistance is, however, uncertain and in any case would be strongly influenced by the kind of showing made by the grass-roots appeal. Thank you again for your patience.
