HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H0055 6/1/00 "JUNE 2000 ANNOUNCEMENTS" ==================================================== Date: Thu, 01 Jun 2000 22:53:56 -0500 From: Bill Morgan Subject: TTHA Poem of the Month for June Earlier this evening, I posted Hardy's "To Outer Nature" and "June Leaves and Autumn" as the TTHA Poem(s) of the Month for May, 2000. This month's discussion is the sixth in a series dedicated to Hardy pieces about the meaning of the natural world. You can find the TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion by following the links from the main TTHA page at http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Welcome/welcomet.htm or by going directly to http://netforum.ilstu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/ths/a/1/ Whichever route you take, when you arrive at the Poem of the Month discussion, you will encounter a program called NetForum which will give you the opportunity to read the poem as well as any comments it may have generated, compose a response, preview your response, edit it further if you like, and finally submit your contribution by clicking on the button labeled Post the Message. (*DON'T use the Reset Message button*; you will lose your work.) If you are composing an intricate or long response, you may want to prepare your response in a word processing program, then copy it to your clipboard before pasting it into the message area of NetForum. And if you prefer, feel free to send me your contribution as an e-mail, and I will post it for you: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu. While the discussions for February, 1998 through November 1999 have been "closed" and their contents edited and published in *The Hardy Review* [I:1 (July 1998) and 2:1 (Summer 1999)] and while the conversations from 1999 about the "Emma" poems are currently being edited for publication, the discussions of "Channel Firing" (January), "Satires of Circumstance in 15 Glimpses" (March), "After the Visit" and "To Meet, or Otherwise" (May), "A Singer Asleep" (July), "Nature's Questioning" (January), "The Mother Mourns" (February), "The Subalterns" (March), "The Lacking Sense" (April), and "In a Wood" (May) are still open, and your contributions are invited. Welcome to the June 2000 TTHA Poem of the Month Discussion. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== Date: Sun, 18 Jun 2000 17:08:14 -0400 From: Robert Schweik Subject: Links Update I've just completed the semiannual review, revision, and updating of all the TTHA"Links to Other Sites" files so that they are now, I hope, accurate as of June, 2000. As T.S. Eliot's typist in The Wasteland says after the carbuncular clerk leaves, "Well, now that's done: and I'm glad it's over". Time to put another record on the gramophone . . . . I'd appreciate any information about sites I may have overlooked, and I'm always grateful for notification of any changes in sites between now and the next semiannual update that will be in January, 2001. The original server broke down and has been replaced by another computer while it is being rebuilt. At present the replacement server is not yet fully functional. Unfortunately this also affect the Novels Page. I managed to restore most of it, but some images and parts of the illustrations section are still off-line. I am working with the server's administrator to overcome this problem as soon as possible and will inform you when all pages are fully functional again. Please note also that the electronic order forms for TTHA publications and for ordering files from the archives as well as the electronic membership application form are also temporarily off-line. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Birgit ========== Date: Thu, 22 Jun 2000 20:02:56 -0400 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: WWW Server Problems Thanks Birgit! I have uploaded a temporary membership form on TTHA Front Page so please don't tear any hair! Very best of luck with the miscreant server, and thank you for your good work. Just to say that Birgit has solved the problems caused by the server-that-did-not-serve; all electronic forms are now back on line, for membership, TTHA publications and so on. Cheers, Rosemarie ========== Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 15:34:36 +0100 From: Birgit Plietzsch Subject: Re: Return of the Server Hello Everybody! More server news, unfortunately. I am, right now, working with the server's administrator to recreate the Novels Page from scratch. Though I managed to get all the forms back online a couple of days ago, the server's administrator has just informed me that he had to wipe off the entire Novels Page and all other TTHA-related files stored on this site. I hope to be able to restore everything later this evening and will let you know when things are back to normal. So please bear with me!
