HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H0023 3/15/00 "HARDY'S ANCESTRY QUESTION" ===================================================== From: "John Keene" Subject: Thomas Hardy's ancestry Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 09:53:46 -0000 We are authors and screenwriters specialising in the Boer War period. During the research on a recent book involving the research of the history of the Head family, we have discovered a direct link with Mary Head, Thomas Hardy's grandmother. In order to fully establish this connection, does anyone have details on his ancestry, or the parents of Mary Head? The area concerned is the Oxon-Berks border in the middle of the Nineteenth Century. Any information would be gratefully received. johnkeene@beeb.net ========== Date: Wed, 15 Mar 2000 08:24:02 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: Thomas Hardy's ancestry Mary Head was Thomas Hardy's paternal grandmother (1772-1857). Mary Head's parents were Mary Hopson (Head) -- d. 1778, and James Head -- d.1772. Professor John Doheney (ex University of British Columbia, Canada), has undertaken extensive research into Hardy's genealogy; he may have more detailed information on the Head family. Good luck, Rosemarie Morgan ========== From: "John Keene" Subject: Re: Thomas Hardy's ancestry Date: Mon, 20 Mar 2000 20:45:38 -0000 s: To Rosemarie Morgan 20th March 2000 Thank you for your e-mail sent 15th March. Do you know who James Head's parents ( Thomas Hardy's great-grandparents) were, and where they came from? Also, do you have a contact address or number for Professor John Doheney? Many thanks for your help ==========.
