HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H9929 5/9/99 "PUBLIC READINGS BY TH" ================================================= From: JWWhipple@aol.com Date: Sun, 9 May 1999 00:01:23 EDT Subject: Fwd: Public readings Return-path: JWWhipple@aol.com From: JWWhipple@aol.com Full-name: JWWhipple Date: Fri, 7 May 1999 19:46:18 EDT Subject: Public readings Dear Friends, A friend asked if I were aware of any instances in which TH read or recited his poetry in public, my friend being rather sure this was never noted. Florence often read his work to him, but my friend said he was certain TH would never have read his work to a crowd. Does anyone know if this is so? We were also speculating if such a deliberate omission might be the reason he was never recorded, at least to our knowledge. Yeats was recorded, not to any great advantage beyond the singularity of his reading, and they died only a decade apart. Any ideas or answers would be most appreciated. Julian W. It received a number of illuminating responses. The concensus was that there is no recording of Hardy's voice at all. The discussion is well worth looking at and can be found on the TTHA Website under the FORUM 1997 Searchable Archives on file H17/97 "Hardy's Voice".
