HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H9858 8/1/98 "AUGUST 98 ANNOUNCEMENTS" ==================================================== Date: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 16:01:42 +0000 From: "Jay R. Newton" Subject: THSNA Poem of the Month for August 1998 While he is away in England for a few weeks, Dr. William Morgan has asked me, his research assistant, to mind the Thomas Hardy Society of North America Poem of the Month Discussion. Therefore, I have just posted Hardy's "Wessex Heights" as the August 1998 Poem of the Month. You can find the THSNA Poem of the Month Discussion by following the links from the main THSNA page at
http://www.yale.edu/hardysoc/Welcome/welcomet.htm
or by going directly to
http://wolf.its.ilstu.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/ths/a/1
Whichever route you take, when you arrive at the Poem of the Month discussion, you will encounter a program called NetForum which will give you the opportunity to read the poem as well as any comments it may have generated, compose a response, preview your response, edit it further if you like, and finally submit your contribution by clicking on the button labeled Post the Message. (Don't use the Reset Message button; you will lose your work.) If you are composing an intricate or long response, you may want to guard against system crashes and other contingencies by first preparing your response in a word processing program, then copying it to your clipboard before pasting it into the message area of NetForum. Welcome to the August 1998 THSNA Poem of the Month Discussion. Best, Jay R. Newton ========== From: "Julian W. Just to say that complimentary copies of the 1998 Hardy Review have now been mailed out to all THSNA members -- you should be receiving yours sometime in the next few weeks. Additional copies can be purchased at $20 (Pounds Sterling: L. 15) for THSNA members, $25 (L. 18) for non-members. Please add $3.50 (L. 2) for packaging and mailing. Please note that the ISBN has not yet been sent from the Library of Congress; but this will appear in later copies. Future editions will probably come out under the Yale University Press imprint. We will keep you posted. With every good wish, Rosemarie Morgan ========== From: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu Date: Mon, 24 Aug 1998 11:20:26 -0500 Subject: Hardy's *Chosen Poems* A few months back, when we were discussing the relationship between Hardy's *Selected Poems* (1916) and *Chosen Poems* (1929), I said that I would be pleased to hear from anyone who knew of a copy of the latter book for sale. As things have turned out, I found and purchased *two* copies of *Chosen Poems* this summer in England, and I now have an extra copy. If anyone on Hardy-L is interested in buying it, would he or she please contact me privately? wwmorgan@ilstu.edu Looking forward to another good year of discussion on the list. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== From: wwmorgan@ilstu.edu) Date: Wed, 26 Aug 1998 11:24:18 -0500 Subject: Authoritative Texts of Hardy's Poetry I'm pleased to announce that Dennis Taylor's "Guide to Editions of Hardy's Poetry" is now posted at the appropriate division of the Hardy Poetry Page. You can see it by going to the Poetry Page and following the links to "Authoritative Texts of Hardy's Poetry" or by going directly to Dennis's text at http://wolf.its.ilstu.edu/hardysoc/TAYLOR2.htm How about a round of cyber-applause for Dennis to thank him for this contribution to the Poetry Page and to our understanding of the intricacies of Hardy's editions. cheers, Bill Morgan ========== Date: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 09:49:21 -0800 From: John Cortus Subject: Tess on A & E in September Please note the below-mentioned dates and times when a version of _Tess of the D'Urbervilles_ starring Justine Waddell will be shown on A & E.
