HARDY FORUM ARCHIVE H09/97 12/31/97 THSNA POETRY ================================================ Date: Fri, 31 Oct 1997 12:37:20 From: William Morgan Subject: Introduction and the THSNA Poetry section Dear HARDY-L Members, My ideas for the Poetry Section at THSNA are not fully formed as yet, but I thought I should let the list know that my first act was to ask Dennis Taylor to write a brief description of each of the editions of Hardy's poetry with any claim to authority. One of the guiding principles of the THSNA website, of course, is that we want to be as scrupulous as possible (Bob Schweik has set a splendid example in his Links section) about matters of scholarly responsibility and accuracy, and it seems that a good place to start is with questions of text. I am also thinking of having a "Poem of the Month" section, focusing attention on and inviting critical and scholarly commentary on a single Hardy poem. The Poetry Section might also be a good place for notices about and/or discussions of translations and musical settings of Hardy's verse. all best, Bill Morgan ********** Date: Wed, 05 Nov 1997 09:57:21 -0500 From: Rosemarie Morgan Subject: Re: Introduction and the THSNA Poetry section Dear Bill, Good news -- your plans for the THSNA Poetry page. I'm now wondering whether you'd like to contribute something to the THSNA REVIEW? Amongst other things the THSNA REVIEW will reproduce, in printed form, the material currently online in the THSNA JOURNAL & RESOURCES pages. As soon as this material (in JOURNAL & RESOURCES) comes into print it will be replaced by a new set of essays and archival material (beginning with the 1998 papers from my Dorset Conference Symposium). I hope to have the current REVIEW in print and ready for marketing by July 1988-- in time for the next TH Conference. But as you know I'm still struggling with designing/uploading the many items on the THSNA website itself (which contains several glitches I have not yet resolved). By the way, if anyone can tell me why reloading (revisions to the LINKS pages, for example), invariably dismantles the pre-existing hyperlinks I have set up -- which means I have to do them all over again-- I wd like to hear about it. The 'something' I have in mind might work well with Jim Gibson's contributions. He will be providing a series of critiques on Hardy's revision of his poems --- probably one poem per REVIEW volume (don't ask me how many Review Volumes THSNA will publish per year: I haven't gotten that far yet!). Your monthly Poem idea would, I think, fit in well with Jim's Poetry section. What do think? What does everyone else think? Bill, I look forward to receiving your POETRY material as and when you are ready -- please send it to me by e-mail attachment. Many thanks, all best, Rosemarie **********
